The latest stage of the Energy related Products (ErP) directive that covers domestic and commercial heating products came into effect on the 26th September 2015.
One of the aims of the ErP Directive is to make it easier for specifiers, installers and consumers to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions. This is done by forcing manufacturers to produce products that are highly energy efficient and making information available on efficiency, emissions and noise levels of products.
The ErP Directive comprises of two separate parts: Ecodesign and Energy labelling.
Ecodesign outlines the required energy performance and environment levels for energy related products.
All products must meet the minimum requirements for energy performance to legally be sold and used in the EU. A compliant product will bear a visible CE mark.
Labels outlining the efficiency band for heating, hot water production and sound level are placed on relevant products.
Every product with an output less that 70kW will require a label with a classification band from A++ to G. These labels are similar to the energy efficiency labelling we see on white goods.
