Potterton Commercial, part of Baxi Commercial Division, has supplied a modular, condensing, packaged boiler plant to Bristol City Council for use in the Bush Residential Resource Centre, a residential short breaks centre for children with learning difficulties. Pupils attend their normal schools during the day and receive care at the Residential Centre overnight during the week and at weekends to provide short break care for families in the Bristol area. Formerly sharing a heating system with a school on the same site and before this was demolished, it was necessary to install a dedicated space heating system for the Centre and this was carried out over the summer break last year.
The Potterton Sirius MB packaged boiler plant was selected by Bristol's Principal Mechanical and Electrical Engineer who described the unit as: "A neat package with a corner configuration which kept the footprint of the plant room to a reasonable size and cost.”
He added, "Potterton's technical back-up and after-sales service was excellent”. With an output of 220kW, the package includes two Sirius WH 110kW condensing boilers, frame mounted along with pumps, pressurisation units and controls. The equipment was supplied via BSS in Bristol and installed by JRC Mechanical Services Ltd. of Ilminster. The package installation was ready for connection to mains services, in less than one day.
Potterton Commercial's Sirius MB package is ideal for the fast on site replacement of old or inefficient heating systems and, with design assistance freely available, this well-proven packaged solution simplifies installation for the contractor. Individual modules allow the system to be connected in a number of configurations, minimizing the site space required for installation and making the heating plant suitable for most boiler rooms - even those with restricted access and problematic layouts.
Each compact module can fit through a standard doorway, simplifying transportation, manual handling and installation. With off-site construction, factory testing, fast
installation of the bolt-together modules and availability of a 5-year warranty, these units offer both clients and installers the ultimate in fast, efficient installation, minimum disruption and reduced system downtime.
Based around Potterton's well-known Sirius WH high efficiency condensing boilers, Sirius MB is available in outputs ranging from 220kW to 440kW and the complete system comprises boilers, low energy pumps, pressurisation unit and controls. The intelligent control system allows modulation of the boilers down to extremely low outputs to match the system load and maintain optimum system efficiency.
With a stainless steel heat exchanger, the Sirius WH range offers optimum heat transfer and exceptional energy efficiency of up to 107%, keeping both energy costs and carbon footprint to a minimum. Ultra low NOx and low noise levels in operation are additional features. Flexible control options include constant temperature, compensated heating, hot water priority and remote BMS control, as well as pump and boiler sequencing with fault detection, auto-changeover and remote alarms. In addition to plate heat exchangers, other options include integral CHP and a GRP enclosure.
